Tartans
The wearing of a tartan "plaid" as part of Highland dress started in the 17th century. The tartan patterns in use today are 19th century adaptations of the early Highlanders dress.
Although we now use tartans to identify a Clan, in early times natural elements like plants and flowers were more commonly used to identify the wearer.
The tartans on this page are some examples of the Clan MacNeil tartans available today...and used throughout history.
