The Deluxe Gigatron When I first saw promos for gigatron, I swooned. Nice color, great sculpt with a nasty dragon motif (ala Transmetal II Megatron), and SIX transformations. Finally, THE bad-ass opponent for any version of Convoy/Optimus Prime. In this case, Super Fire Convoy was in for one hell of a fight. Then I got it, and... well.. The toy itself is very cool. But it's rather small. I know, same grip from Megatron, different toy. But it's still very true. Gigatron should be THE Big Bad for Convoy; ready to fight in ALL forms of Convoy, even one that's almost a foot tall. As it stands, this is like having Shaquille O'NeaL take on Mini-Me in a game of one-on-one. Pretty ugly... unless Mini-Me gets a good shot below the belt... ok, let's stop. Anyway, you get the idea. So what can we do if we wanted to do a little make-over? First, LET'S MAKE IT BIGGER. Ok, so the CONVOY section of the toy is actually the same size as Gigatron. Fine, we'll leave it that way to make things even between these two sections. Still, when Convoy merges with the other sections into Super Fire Convoy... can you say butt whuppin'? Here's a thought, let's steal an idea from Super Fire Convoy and have removable pieces of aroor, like SFC, to make Gigatron larger and more powerful. Keep the armor organic looking to match the sculpt on Gigatron, of course. Also mold the pieces so that they can be used in all six transformaiton of Gigatron. Rather then the separate pieces changing into a battle station, how about changing into a dragon, ala Super Human Cybernary Cybersquad.(Yes, the show sucked, but the actual toys were kinda cool.) If you wanna go over the top, set it up so that Gigatron can ride the dragon, like some demonic steed. Coooooool. While we're at it, how about a weapons make-over. SFC has the giant bazooka on his back, so Gigatron needs something pretty hefty, too. The original staff/fighting-sticks he comes with are a good start, so how about some plug-in pieces from his new armor that increase the size of the staff/fighting-sticks, perhaps also add on a shield, maybe even a rifle. Finally, how come only Convoy gets lighting effects? Let's throw in a nice roar, the swoop of something flying by, and maybe the CRASH of energy swords striking. Ok, now HERE'S a fair fight. Touch gloves, head to your corners, and may the best 'bot win. |
