Orcyns

A Primary Specie One-Animal Male Orcyn, Mammal, Fox Type. Two eyes/ears. Aprox. 60 years. Art © Kirsten Cummins 2007

*A specie that can can manifest it's spirit into a colored, dense mist that when used correctly can make small alterations in elements. They are Spiritual-oriented, being able to manipulate their souls in arcane means. Each creature has a different color to their souls when manipulating the elements, and some have more colors than others. The colors are influenced by other colors based on the emotion of the person. Say for instance if someone's a blue color. If they're angry, it's a purpleish-color, if sad, a dulled, greyish-blue. The colors and number of colors an Orcyn is depends on their personality, and may change with age. That being said, their lifespan is typically 200 years, 100 being 50 by human standards.

*They range from anthro-animals with varying animal characteristics to humans with very striking animal characteristics, but having at the LEAST one animal body part (Tail, Ears, Eyes, Ect.). Another defining feature is a mark under their right eye, each different and colored differently.

*Some have more than just the norm for a body part, whether it be a pair or a single item (such as a tail.) For instance, some may have four eyes, four ears, four arms, four legs, ect.. The second part (or pair of parts) can be used to detect 'spirits' and such... And the ones with more than one eye have a series of spots under their extra eye, ranging from one to three. However, the primary specie (Being half human, half two max animals) are the only ones to have two eyes and can see such spiritual signatures. Any 'second pair' of something they have (arms, feet, ears, ect.) Are more inclined to assist in the arcane. For example, the second set of ears can hear malevolent thoughts or hopeful prayers, their arms can manipulate elements easily without using their entire soul. Feet allow one to go into a sleepwalking state and manipulate the thoughts of someone, but of course, this state makes them rather vulnerable.

*Bodies range differently, too, based on the specie of animal the one creature is most strongly influenced by. For instance, one influenced moreso by a horse than it's fox appearence would have perhaps a centuarish body, that becoming a prominent subspecies.

*Orcyns bodies have very efficient metabolisms. They work quickly, but their bodies absorb nutrients and store energies for quite a long duration, meaning they do not need to ingest much food at all. However, they do depend on liquids in their systems as humans do to remain hydrated. Their bodies are also apt at healing, and even a deep gash could be remedied if the bleeding is slowed and the wounded one is allowed rest. However, when the Orcyn is damaged whilst using it's soul's energy outside it's body- that is to say, they are manipulating the elements at the time of damage- It heals just as a human's body would, usually prone to scarring.

*Things such as wings and tails are based on what animal influences their structure. What determines what animal(s) the Orcyn resembles is a ritual at birth. When they are born, they are in a egg-like casing which is full of nutrients that can keep the creature alive for five months. Once it is ready to hatch, the parents present the 'egg' to the spirits of the animal phylum (it is limited, however), a spirit for each group, being:

Mammals: Vertebrate Warm blooded vertebrate animals which have hair or fur. Mammals have a highly developed nervous system. They live on land and in the sea. There is a very wide range of types in this group. ¹

Birds: Vertebrate Warm blooded vertebrate animals with wings and bodies covered with feathers for warmth and to help them to fly. Birds have lungs for breathing and a heart with four chambers. All adult birds are covered in feathers even though some are born naked.¹

Reptiles: Vertebrate Cold blooded vertebrates. This means they cannot maintain a body temperature much different than their environment. Most reptiles lay eggs with hard shells. Young fully formed reptiles hatch from the eggs. A reptile's skin is usually covered with scales.¹

Amphibians: Vertebrate Cold blooded vertebrate animals that generally spend their larval or tadpole stage in fresh water. They do not transfer to the land until they are mature, returning to the water to breed.²

Fish: Vertebrate Cold blooded vertebrate animals that live in water and use gills to obtain oxygen.²

Molluscs: Invertebrate Mollusc is the common name for all soft-bodied invertebrate animals. It includes Snails, Slugs, Clams and Octopus. Sometimes these soft bodied animals are protected by a shell.²,¹

Segmented Bodied Worms: Invertebrate These are animals whose bodies are divided into a number of similar rings. The head tapers to a point. The tail is broad and flat. Pores on the skin cover its body with slime. This slime keeps the worm clean, makes it slippery and kills germs. The pointed nose drills into the soil and the flat tail presses it tight. The slime is then used to cement the burrows.¹

Arthropods: Invertebrate Arthropods are invertebrate animals with an external skeleton and jointed limbs. These include crustaceans, insects and spiders. Some live in water, some live out of water and some fly. There are arthropods scattered all over the world, from the polar regions to the tropics. The most arthropods in number and variety are in the tropical regions.²,¹

Echinoderms: Invertebrate Echinoderms is a common name for about 6 000 living species that live at all depths in all of the oceans of the world . These include: Starfish, Sea-Cucumbers and Sea-Urchins. Echinoderms have simple nervous and circulatory systems.²

Coelenterates: Invertebrate This is the common name for 9 000 species of invertebrate animals found in all oceans of the world. These include: Coral, Jellyfish and Sea-Anenome. Some are cylindrical with the mouth and tentacles at one end. All coelenterates capture their prey in the tentacles and then kill them with poison from the stinging organ.²

*Genders are rather obvious for most types. Females typically have breasts for nursing and attraction (considering that the youth ALWAYS needs milk despite animal type, the species has evolved so that despite the animal the mother is, she will still provide milk for her young.), and both have typical human reproductive organs. The female does, however, deliver an egg, despite her being a mammal or not. (Seahorse males do not carry the youth.) The organs on the outer part of the body are hidden, much like penguins. Males are moreso prone to be influenced by their animal instincts than the females, but when females are caring for their very young (typically from birth to age three, though it depends on the mother) they're prone to be VERY feral. Like certain animals who chase away their mates to protect the young, some mothers do so, or, if the father is, for instance, a Betta specie, it might be a reverse role. Males are normally colored more lavishly than females, that being the norm in most animals. If not in their fur/scale/ect. colors, than in their soul colors. Males can just shift their colors faster and can influence them through emotion easier than females, though when a female's emotion is influencing, it's usually a much more prominent effect on her soul color (For instance, when angered, a blue female will become a purple, where as a male will become a blueish-purple.)

*The less a Orcyn influenced by a human structure which, agian, is determined by the ritual, the broader the range of extra body parts they can have. For instance, a Centuar-fox Orcyn perhaps has four ears, eyes, and legs, as opposed to an Orcyn that is more humanesque like, (but still having things like animal ears and a tail,) that they could only have the single extra pair of ears/legs/arms etc.

*The different species of animals usually associate with each other, though whether their youth will be like them is undetermined. Each, however, has their own fancies. For example, mammals fancy metallics (gold, silver, ect. to wear), aquatics adorn themselves with rare gems in their scales and such, reptiles paint their scales with bright colors, birds use henna to mark heiroglyphs into their feathers.

*As far as the element manipulation goes, most are attuned to only one element, two at the most. They can still manipulate other elements, but normally excell at this one (or these two) element(s). This is determined by the personality, normally, and can sometimes even be influenced by the parents of a Orcyn (For instance, if both the mother and father were attuned to water, the youth will more than likely have an affinity for the element.)

*Every century, there is a spirit that inhabits one body that encompasses small characteristics of every species, and can manipulate every element. It typically appears very much like a human, however. What determines who this spirit encompasses is pure chance, and is normally treated with care once discovered. It's very unstable, though, and never lives past 100 years.
