The best fun that's free!
RPG stands for role-playing game. It's a wonderful way to get the creative juices flowing or just get away from it all. There are hundreds, if not thousands, of RPGs on the net. This site focuses on Star Trek RPGs but most work the same way.
Basically a Star Trek RPG is literally a way to role play out Star Trek situations with others. The most common RPGs are played by e-mail, these are called PBeMs. What you do is invent a character to write as i.e. pretend you/they are on a starship. The next step is to apply for a job aboard a Starship as that character in whatever position you wish (note: Some RPGs rely on the amount of time you spend playing to get ranks and high positions. You might have to start your character off as an ensign and work your way up the career ladder to a senior position). Then all you do is Post.
How do I join?
There are many sites littered around the internet where you can join RPGs, however your best bet would probably be Yahoo! Groups. This is because many RPGs run through the Yahoo! Groups mass delivery system. However any decent search engine will be able to find plenty on RPGs.
But what do I DO as a RPGer?
Your captain will tell you all you need to know once you have the position, however it is wise to apply for a position that you actually know something about. I once had the bad experience of applying for Nurse, only to find I knew nothing about how to be a medical person.
Other tips?
The best way to find out is to try it out, however, exploring the rest of this site will probably prove useful. :)
