Episode synopsis: Mulder
and Scully head to Georgia to investigate a series of deaths at a lake.
The locals believe there is a lake monster living in the lake called Big
Blue. Mulder believes the deaths may be the cause of Big Blue. Scully is
as usual doubtful.
A number of
additional people are killed (as well as Scully's dog, Queequag) by some
type of animal living in the lake. Our intrepid agents rent a boat to try
and find the animal on the water. During their search, the boat is hit
by something very large and the boat sinks.
After another
attack, Mulder finds a monstrous alligator and kills it.
But, something
is still seen lurking in the lake.
The Truth: Lake creatures gave been reported in various lakes across the glove. The most famous is the Loch Ness monster in Scotland. North America is not without it's unusual creatures. The most sighted creature resides in British columbia and is called Ogopogo. There has also been a serpentine creature spotted in the Chesapeake Bay, and Lake Champlain. Stories abound of these creatures Inconclusive pictures have been taken and some investigators have used sonar and other equipment to try and find one of these creatures. Some believe these creatures may be some type of aquatic dinosaur that has somehow survived into the 20th century. Unfortunately none of these researchers has ever found conclusive evidence that what people are seeing is a real creature and not some more prosaic answer.
