How they are shown in the X-Files:The first case with an implant was on the very first episode. Mulder and Scully head to Oregon to investigate an unusual string of deaths of young adults form the same graduating class. The episode puts forth the classmates were all abducted and had implants placed in their heads as a controlling device. Duane Barry claimed he also was abducted  and had implants put inside him. After her own Abduction, Scully, found an implant inside her and has it removed. She subsequently is diagnosed with cancer. After meeting other women who have had implants removed and come down with cancer it is believed her cancer came from the implant. Scully learns from X that the implant she and others received was made on Earth and she was abducted by the Conspiracy. All the had the implant removed came down with an imoperable form of cancer. Most of the women died from it. Scully survived. Scully's cancer went into remission by uncertain means.

The Truth: Many people who claim to be abductees have reported that their abductors have placed foreign objects in their bodies. Scars are often evident in these cases. further investigations have detected objects on X-rays. Some objects have been removed. The determinations of these objects are often inconclusive as to what they are and what they are made of.
