RECORDER SOCIETY OF CONNECTICUT
is pleased to present 2 - mini Workshops, directed by Eric Haas Saturday, October
24, 2009 "MYTH CONCEPTIONS" Renaissance chansons, madrigals and dances inspired by Greek mythology, including an Anonymous setting of "Daphne", which became a popular English country Dance tune and the source of van Eyck's virtuoisic variations, William Byrd's chromatic madrigal "Come, woeful Orpheus" and beautiful lament on the death of Thomas Tallis "Ye sacred Muses", Roland de Lassus's gentle "Qui dort icy" in praise of Venus, Peter Philips's "Ut re mi fa sol la", a hymn to Urania, the muse of celestial harmony, Orazio Vecchi's raucous drinking song "Ecc'il buon Bacco", plus William Brade's "Der Satyrn Tanz", Tielman Susato's "Le forza d'Ercole" (the strength of Hercules) and more. Eric Haas studied
recorder with John Tyson and baroque flute with Sandra Miller. He has
taught at New England Conservatory, Tufts University and Wheaton College,
as well as numerous early music workshops, including Amherst Early Music,
Pinewoods, Mideast Workshop, and the Long Island Recorder Festival. Mr.
Haas has performed on both recorder and early flutes with Emmanuel Music,
Pentimento and the Renaissance flute consort Travessada. He served for
many years as Music Director of the Boston Recorder Society and is on
