Members of the public are able to surrender animals to the Port Lincoln Animal Shelter. A fee is charged for this service. The Port Lincoln Animal Shelter will try to rehome the animal if it is at all possible. The success rate for rehoming animals is consistenly higher than the State and National averages, a fact that the shelter staff are very proud of. Unfortunatley some animals are unable to be rehomed for a variety of reasons. Some are too old, some have behavioural problems and some are no longer fashionable. Animals that can not be rehomed are humanely destroyed.
In an attempt to reduce the numbers of animals surrendered we ask people to carefully consider the choice of pet that they make. It is important that unless you are a registered breeder, that all cats and dogs be desexed. This will significantly reduce the number of animals that have to be surrendered in the future. It is also important to train your dog so that it is not a problem for you or a nuisance to others.
If you need to surrender an animal, please contact the Port Lincoln Animal Shelter - Boarding Kennels & Cattery, Happy Valley Rd, Port Lincoln SA. (08) 86823016. During the normal the hours of business: 10 am until 4 pm Monday to Friday. (Please Note) Saturday, Sunday and Public Holidays by appointment only.
