While it may very well be true that RS books speak out against gays,
it is also true that RS
has many gay members. From what I understand, RS "masters" are
a hot topic in the various
bath houses of Los Angeles. Why one would want to join a group
which speaks against one's
lifestyle is another subject, but the plain truth is that many members
of RS are gay. They just
don't advertise it.
Before I became aware of RS, the local Secretary here (so the story
goes) was a man who
kind of kept to himself. This was a problem because as the Secretary
he received news from
the Dera which he was supposed to pass along to members but often he
failed to do so.
Eventually he sort of disappeared and was finally located in one of
the "death camp" hostels
where gay people dying of AIDS go to spend their last days. It
was not until then that it
dawned on the dense and trusting members that this guy was gay.
They never had a clue
up until then. Theoretically, the Master, who was Charan Singh
at the time, should approve
the appointment of Secretaries. Obviously, his "omnipotent vision"
could not detect a gay
person either.
The bottom line is that these "masters" and also the other members know
nothing at all
about you unless you tell them. They don't know what you think,
what you do, what
your sexual preference is or anything else about you. So, if
you are gay and really want
to be in RS, go sign up. They'll take you - they don't know any
better - and, if you are
on the West Coast, you can hook up with all the other gay members in
the bath houses
and "have a gay old time".
