LEGAL ARGUMENTS
THE GENERAL CONCEPT OF FRAUD
The garden variety preacher could be described as an "information provider".
He talks about God and how people should be good and kind and so
on. To the degree he is able to inspire people, they give him money
which keeps him going. However, the preacher does not claim to be
capable of actually "doing anything" - he simply talks about things that
God does.
Gurinder is different. He claims to be a "service provider". People
do not hang around him to hear him preach about God. Instead, he
claims that he IS god - Sat Purush to be specific. And,
in exchange for loyalty, money and physical services, he promises to personally
appear at the time of a member's death and "take care of everything".
The question is, how many grandiose claims and promises can Gurinder
make to people before he meets some legal definition of fraud. The
truth is Gurinder is not god - he has no spiritual powers - he does not
come to meet people when they die and he cannot perform miracles or any
other task that the average person cannot do. But he specifically
promises these things in his initiation ceremony. Also, the many
cult publications are filled with claims of his powers and examples of
claimed miracles.
It is one thing to go around and preach about the powers of God and quite
another to claim you are god and make specific promises of service to people
which you cannot provide and have no intention of providing.
THE DERA AND THE INDIAN GOVERNMENT
The Dera is a unique little place. It is a walled city right out
of the days of old. And, built into the wall every so often is a
circular guard tower just like ancient castles.
These guard towers are manned by soldiers of the Indian army. Also,
an Indian army detail camps out in a tent just outside the entrance to
the "guest house" where visitors stay and Gurinder lives.
Why are they there? Why does the government of India provide
army troops to protect this ashram? What is so special about these
people that they rate such special services. Clearly, there must be
some relationship between Gurinder's group and the government of India.
If Gurinder has a relationship with the government of India, he
is required to register in the United States as an agent of a foreign power.
Has he - probably not. Considering current events in the world,
maybe he should be detained and asked next time he enters the country.
GURINDER'S SLAVE LABOR SYSTEM
Beas original philosophy was that one's primary duty was to do his meditation.
However, lately this has been overshadowed by one's duty to report
to work sites and do free labor for Gurinder in exchange for spiritual favors
after death. First, Gurinder cons someone into giving him property
or money to buy property and then tells cult members to improve the property
by constructing buildings and the like. He offers no help at all and
expects workers to bring their own tools and equipment and take care
of all their needs while they are working for him for free.
Now, with respect to projects in the United States, what about all of our
labor laws - OSHA rules - workman's compensation and the like. What
about on the job injuries. Well Gurinder does not worry about such
trivial things as people's rights and US laws - after all, he is god - so
why should he care. However, a judge might see things differently
if he were hauled into court and held responsible for any ill effects people
suffered while on his property doing slave labor for him.
GURINDER'S PIPELINE OF RESTRICTED TECHNOLOGY
Gurinder is from the modern generation. He likes technology - lots
of it. And, to get the technology he wants. he simply asks people who
come to visit him from developed countries - mainly the United States - to
bring it to him. Of course his followers obey and deliver the goods
as ordered. Before Gurinder, you could not find a computer or anything
remotely resembling one anywhere at the Dera. Now, the computer center
is huge and has its own building. The problem here is that much of what
Gurinder desires and, in fact, has in fact obtained is "not for export".
It does not seem to occur to his followers that they are violating the
law by bringing him restricted hardware and software from the United States.
And, since he has so far not been caught, the process continues.
WHEN GURINDER'S COMMANDS CAUSE INJURY
Let's consider some of Gurinder's basic commands.
Well, he wants everyone to be a vegetarian for one. Now, this
may not be appropriate for all people. Suppose it negatively impacts
your health. Gurinder is not a licensed dietitian in the United States
and he can't give dietary advice. To do so is practicing without a license
and anyone who is told by a for real doctor or dietitian that their health
is being negatively impacted by following Gurinder's advice should be able
to haul him into court and collect damages.
What about his special brand of Yoga. Well, despite the name change,
it looks just like Kundalini Yoga which essentially all experts agree must
be practiced under direct guidance by a competent expert. So what does
Gurinder do? He sends out "representatives" who have no idea what they
are doing to give out instructions "by proxy" to people who may well never
meet Gurinder. It would not matter if they did meet Gurinder because
he does not know what he is doing - he is just using an
"initiation instruction book" left to him by the
previous master who probably did not know anything either. So you have
unsupervised people scattered all over the world doing introductory Kundalini
Yoga exercises with no clue as to what they are doing and no one to turn to
for help if anything goes wrong.
This could be grounds for arresting Gurinder on a charge of "reckless endangerment"
because any recognized expert on Kundalini Yoga in the United States would
testify that you should not give out this type of instruction unless you
were available to physically supervise your student.
GURINDER'S MONEY COURIERS
Many people from many countries visit Gurinder's stronghold in India each
year. And, each year some are "chosen" for special missions where Gurinder's
organization buys them tickets to another country and gives them satchels
of cash (currency) which they are to deliver to someone and then return to
headquarters at the Dera. The people chosen are, of course, completely
under the influence of Gurinder and never entertain the thought that something
illegal may be going on since "they are on a mission from god".
What's really going on here. What is this money trafficking network
that Gurinder operates doing. Where does the money come from? Where
does it go? Loyal followers would never ask such questions because it
would be "questioning god's will".
However, for the less gullible, perhaps it is time to see just what is going
on here.
