Grimm Tales From The Forests of Sog
This is a collection of stories that have been put into a fairy tale or bedtime story format. The stories are true but, they have been Put into this format because they are, by nature, rather unbelievable.  Part of the problem with telling these stories is that they come from a unit that, until recently, was completely classified.  MACV-SOG ran a variety of covert operations during the Vietnam War.  These stories deal with the Strategic Reconnaissance missions of OP-35.
Here are some helpful terms that will help you to understand the terminology that is used in some of the stories.
  • Bright Light Team:  A reinforced recon team that was used as a reaction force in the event that a team in the field needed assistance or a team had to be rescued.

  • Claymore:  An anti-personnel mine that was command detonated by use of a "clacker."  This mine was filled with one and one quarter pounds of C-4 and it was dangerous to be within 50 feet of the Claymore when it was exploded.

  • Strings:  Strings were 120 ft. ropes that were rigged to a helicopter and used to extract teams from areas where a landing zone was unavailable.

  • STABO:  STABO rigs were harnesses used by recon teams to attach an individual to the "Strings".
