1998 Playoff Notes

1998 Super Bowl
  • Hobo's Hunters: The Hunters picked a bad week to completely unravel. After dominating the SCFFL all season, the Hunter played like Hobos in the biggest game of the year. The Hunters had a worse point total for the week than any other team in the league. There were so many disapointments that it is difficult to even begin to explain the Hunters loss. Emmitt Smith and the Seahawks defense combined for 23 of the teams 42 points. Not great performances, but at least respectable. The rest of the team managed a paltry 19 points. Terrell Davis picked a bad week to be shut down completely. Troy Aikman played like a combination of Kordell Stewart and Jim Harbaugh (well, at least he got positive points). For the second straight year, the Hunters dominated the league in the regular season and lost in the playoffs.
  • G'heese Heads: The G'heese Heads had a roller coaster season in which they were twice resurected from the dead to make the playoffs. After 7 weeks, the G'heese Heads were on a 4 game losing streak and saw their record stand at 2-4-1. Then, after rebounding to win 4 straight, the G'heese Heads lost in week 12 to fall a game behind both the Bombers and XYZ in their division with only two games remaining. Solid wins in the last two weeks combined with a little help from Lindy's Lickers vaulted the G'heese Heads into the division title. From there they never looked back. The Super Bowl win was fueled by superb RB play. Jamaal Anderson and Fred Taylor were the key to the G'heese Heads attack all season and this was no different in the Super Bowl. They were aided by Kent Graham who had one of his best performances of the year as a replacement for injured starter Mark Brunnell. All in all a very satisfying day and season for the 1998 SCFFL Champion G'heese Heads.

1998 Semi Final Game 1
  • Hobo's Hunters: What more can be said about Hobo's Hunters? They continued their dominance of the SCFFL with the only triple digit score by a team in the playoffs. Terrell Davis had another solid performance, but the real star was the Seahawks defense. The recent breakdown of the Cowboys offense could hurt the Hunters. Still, with the return of Dorsey Levens and the development of Jon Kitna the Hunters have a number of options.
  • Brad's Ballistic Bombers: The Bombers performance was very similar to the Hunters. Both teams got the expected point totals from their backfields and unexpectedly poor point totals from their receivers. The difference in this game was kicker and defense. Mike Hollis and the Vikings were outscored by Adam Vinatieri and the Seahawks by 23 points. The Bombers only lost the game by 17 points.

1998 Semi Final Game 2
  • G'heese Heads: The G'heese Heads scored less points than both the Hunters and Bombers, but still managed a rather comfortable victory over the Jamins. The G'heese Heads will not be at full strength for the Super Bowl with the injury to Mark Brunnell. However, with Jamaal Anderson, Fred Taylor, Eric Moulds, and Herman Moore the G'heese Heads at least have a punchers chance.
  • We Be Jamins: The Jamins impressive run into the playoffs came to a depressing halt against the G'heese Heads. The Jamins were beset by early game injuries all season. This week they could not overcome the broken foot suffered by Terry Glenn. The Jamins could not get into the Super Bowl, but they should still be proud they made the playoffs after a 2-11-1 perfomance in 1997.

Weekly/Total Points
  • Hobo's Hunters: Despite a complete breakdown in the final two weeks, the Hunters held on for the yearly point total championship.
  • Banana Slugs: The Slugs managed to finish in second place despite missing the playoffs. The hard charging Fantasy Bowl champion G'heese Heads just fell short of catching the Slugs and finished in third.
