Gen 2:2 And on the seventh day God finished his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made. Gen 2:3 And God blessed the seventh day, and hallowed it; because that in it he rested from all his work which God had created and made.
Exo 20:8
Sabbath celebrates creation - universal in scope
Neh 13:18 Did not your fathers thus, and did not our God bring all this evil upon us, and upon this city? yet ye bring more wrath upon Israel by profaning the Sabbath.
Mat 12:8 For the Son of man is lord of the Sabbath.
Jesus was involved with creation and that continues
Mat 12:10 and behold, a man having a withered hand. And they asked him, saying, Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath day? that they might accuse him.
It's righteous to do good on the Sabbath
Mar 1:21 And they go into Capernaum; and straightway on the Sabbath day he entered into the synagogue and taught.
Jesus kept the Sabbath
Mar 2:27 And he said unto them, The Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath: Mar 2:28 so that the Son of man is lord even of the Sabbath. Luk 23:54 And it was the day of the Preparation, and the Sabbath drew on. Luk 23:55 And the women, who had come with him out of Galilee, followed after, and beheld the tomb, and how his body was laid. Luk 23:56 And they returned, and prepared spices and ointments. And on the sabbath they rested according to the commandment.
Act 1:12 Then returned they unto Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet, which is nigh unto Jerusalem, a Sabbath day's journey off.
Act 13:14 But they, passing through from Perga, came to Antioch of Pisidia; and they went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and sat down.
Act 17:2 and Paul, as his custom was, went in unto them, and for three Sabbath days reasoned with them from the Scriptures,
Paul and the disciples kept Sabbath
Col 1-2 Col 2:16 Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of a feast day or a new moon or a Sabbath day
I believe that this give license for Gentiles thus Christians to practice Jewish holidays. This letter was written to gentiles not Jews. Jews would not need this message. We have to consider the audience of Paul's writings. It would be great if we knew the events that provoked his writings.
Heb 4:9 There remaineth therefore a Sabbath rest for the people of God.
Heb 4:10 For he that is entered into his rest hath himself also rested from his works, as God did from his.
There is future prophetical events that the Sabbath reveals. I believe this refers to the Millennium. Its also interesting to note that Sabbath begins at sundown on Friday. What might this understanding at to other scriptures that refer to the millennium or the rapture?
2. Trumpets, Day of Atonement, Feast of Tabernacles
Lev 23:24 Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, In the seventh month, on the first day of the month, shall be a solemn rest unto you, a memorial of blowing of trumpets, a holy convocation. Lev 23:25 Ye shall do no servile work; and ye shall offer an offering made by fire unto Jehovah. Lev 23:26 And Jehovah spake unto Moses, saying, Lev 23:27 Howbeit on the tenth day of this seventh month is the day of atonement: it shall be a holy convocation unto you, and ye shall afflict your souls; and ye shall offer an offering made by fire unto Jehovah. Lev 23:28 And ye shall do no manner of work in that same day; for it is a day of atonement, to make atonement for you before Jehovah your God. Lev 23:29 For whatsoever soul it be that shall not be afflicted in that same day; he shall be cut off from his people. Lev 23:30 And whatsoever soul it be that doeth any manner of work in that same day, that soul will I destroy from among his people. Lev 23:31 Ye shall do no manner of work: it is a statute for ever throughout your generations in all your dwellings. Lev 23:32 It shall be unto you a Sabbath of solemn rest, and ye shall afflict your souls: in the ninth day of the month at even, from even unto even, shall ye keep your Sabbath. Lev 23:33 And Jehovah spake unto Moses, saying, Lev 23:34 Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, On the fifteenth day of this seventh month is the feast of tabernacles for seven days unto Jehovah. Lev 23:35 On the first day shall be a holy convocation: ye shall do no servile work. Lev 23:36 Seven days ye shall offer an offering made by fire unto Jehovah: on the eighth day shall be a holy convocation unto you; and ye shall offer an offering made by fire unto Jehovah: it is a solemn assembly; ye shall do no servile work. Lev 23:37 These are the set feasts of Jehovah, which ye shall proclaim to be holy convocations, to offer an offering made by fire unto Jehovah, a burnt-offering, and a meal-offering, a sacrifice, and drink-offerings, each on its own day; Lev 23:38 besides the Sabbaths of Jehovah, and besides your gifts, and besides all your vows, and besides all your freewill-offerings, which ye give unto Jehovah. Lev 23:39 Howbeit on the fifteenth day of the seventh month, when ye have gathered in the fruits of the land, ye shall keep the feast of Jehovah seven days: on the first day shall be a solemn rest, and on the eighth day shall be a solemn rest. Lev 23:40 And ye shall take you on the first day the fruit of goodly trees, branches of palm-trees, and boughs of thick trees, and willows of the brook; and ye shall rejoice before Jehovah your God seven days. Lev 23:41 And ye shall keep it a feast unto Jehovah seven days in the year: it is a statute for ever throughout your generations; ye shall keep it in the seventh month. Lev 23:42 Ye shall dwell in booths seven days; all that are home-born in Israel shall dwell in booths; Lev 23:43 that your generations may know that I made the children of Israel to dwell in booths, when I brought them out of the land of Egypt: I am Jehovah your God. Lev 23:44 And Moses declared unto the children of Israel the set feasts of Jehovah.
Deu 16:13 Thou shalt keep the feast of tabernacles seven days, after that thou hast gathered in from thy threshing-floor and from thy winepress: Deu 16:14 and thou shalt rejoice in thy feast, thou, and thy son, and thy daughter, and thy man-servant, and thy maid-servant, and the Levite, and the sojourner, and the fatherless, and the widow, that are within thy gates. Deu 16:15 Seven days shalt thou keep a feast unto Jehovah thy God in the place which Jehovah shall choose; because Jehovah thy God will bless thee in all thine increase, and in all the work of thy hands, and thou shalt be altogether joyful.
Zec 14:16 And it shall come to pass, that every one that is left of all the nations that came against Jerusalem shall go up from year to year to worship the King, Jehovah of hosts, and to keep the feast of tabernacles. Zec 14:17 And it shall be, that whoso of all the families of the earth goeth not up unto Jerusalem to worship the King, Jehovah of hosts, upon them there shall be no rain.
From this verse we know that in the future during the millennium these feasts will be important .
Should we not know about the feasts and align ourselves with God's plan what ever it may be.
Joh 7:2 Now the feast of the Jews, the feast of tabernacles, was at hand. Joh 7:3 His brethren therefore said unto him, Depart hence, and go into Judaea, that thy disciples also may behold thy works which thou doest. Joh 7:4 For no man doeth anything in secret, and himself seeketh to be known openly. If thou doest these things, manifest thyself to the world. Joh 7:5 For even his brethren did not believe on him. Joh 7:6 Jesus therefore saith unto them, My time is not yet come; but your time is always ready.
I believe this hints that important prophetic event in the future are tied to the feasts.
3. Feasts of Unleavend bread and Passover:
Exo 12:48 And when a stranger shall sojourn with thee, and will keep the passover to Jehovah, let all his males be circumcised, and then let him come near and keep it; and he shall be as one that is born in the land: but no uncircumcised person shall eat thereof.
I am not a Jew, I see my self as a sojourner with Israel. Gentiles are given a window of opportunity but at some future time God will again turn his eyes to his people. We are grafted into the root, they are the root.
Mat 26:1 And it came to pass, when Jesus had finished all these words, he said unto his disciples, Mat 26:2 Ye know that after two days the passover cometh, and the Son of man is delivered up to be crucified.
Luk 22:15 And he said unto them, With desire I have desired to eat this Passover with you before Luk 22:16 for I say unto you, I shall not eat it, until it be fulfilled in the kingdom of God. Luk 22:17 And he received a cup, and when he had given thanks, he said, Take this, and divide it among yourselves: Luk 22:18 for I say unto you, I shall not drink from henceforth of the fruit of the vine, until the kingdom of God shall come.
1Co 5:7 Purge out the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, even as ye are unleavened. For our Passover also hath been sacrificed, even Christ:
1Co 5:8 wherefore let us keep the feast, not with old leaven, neither with the leaven of malice and wickedness, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.
There is definitive evidence above that events of the past and most likely the future are conveyed in the feasts (both New Testament and Old Testament scriptures).
I hope to set you on your own journey. I am still learning so I can't connect all the dots yet myself. As I practice the holidays and read, I learn. I'm only about 2 years into the movement so there is a long way to go for me. I am also slowly learning Hebrew so that I may understand the scripture in its original form.
