ABOUT THE CLUB
West Rand Budgerigar Club was founded in 1980 after breaking away from Johannesburg Budgerigar Club. The founding members were Tom Lynch, Susan Lynch, Chris Schutte, Norman Nelson, Ben Terblanche and Elize Terblanche.
Over the years the club has gone from strength to strength, as a whole performed well at Provincial and National Shows.
The spirit in the club is one of unity. Among the members there is fierce competition and a lot of jokes about younger members' birds. The morale in the club is high and every new member joining the club is welcomed with open arms and never left to feel abandoned and alone. Members know that help is just a phone call away, be it for pairing of birds during the breeding season or plucking of spots for shows or any other.
Meetings are held on a monthly basis at a members residence and afterwards they will visit the birdroom. Avairy visits to top champion breeders in the area are a highlight in every members day, where you can not only look at their birds but also ask questions and gain a lot of knowledge upon leaving.

Every year the club has a young bird show where all the members compete against each other with birds they bred for that year, afterwards there is a prize giving and braai (barbeque). New comers are always welcome.
