Sallie

For obvious reasons this is one of my favorite monuments at Gettysburg.  That's Sallie.  She was the mascot of the 11th Pennsylvania regiment   After the fighting on July 1, Sallie was separated from the retreating regiment.  She found her way to where they had fought, on Seminary Ridge and spent the next three days and nights on the field with her hurt and wounded friends.  Years after the battle when the Veterans were putting monuments on the field the men of the 11th Pennsylvania remembered their faithful mascot.
