The Irish Brigade

This is the monument to the Army of the Potomac's Irish Brigade, one of the most famous units in the army.  It had been in many of the army's toughest fights before Gettysburg, at Fredricksburg and at Antietam.  By July of 1863 the brigade had suffered so many casualties it was a shadow of it's foimer self.  After Gettysburg it almost ceased to exist.
This is one of my favorite markers, for obvious reasons.:)  The Irish Wolfhound resting on the base could have been a relative of mine.
