This beautiful sculpture is quite new. It was erected by the Loyal Order of Freemasons in the 1990's. It stands in the annex to the National Cemetary. It depeict a scene from July 3, 1863. Confederate General Louis Armistead was mortally wounded leading his brigade into the Federal lines on Cemetary Ridge during the attack called Pickett's charge. The wounded man was attended to by a Union officer when it was discovered that both men were Freemasons. |
