Our Pregnancy Journal

Psalm 139: 13-16; 5
For you created my inmost being;
you knit me together in my mother's womb.
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
your works are wonderful, I know that full well.
My frame was not hidden from you
when I was made in the secret place.
When I was woven together in the depths of the earth,
your eyes saw my unformed body.
All the days ordained for me were written in your book
before one of them came to be.

You hem me in - behind and before;
you have laid your hand upon me.
March 18 - 20, 2002

These past few days have been really hard on us as we process our baby's condition. Added to this is the extra challenge of Sheri's teaching and Kevin's employment concerns.  We have found ourselves claiming our wedding text verse from Colossians 1:17,
"He is before all things,
and in him
all things hold together."
We are holding onto this promise; that God has gone before us in all of these situations, and that He will hold us together through them.
   We are just so thankful that we have such excellent medical care and the support of family and friends caring for us.  We are blessed!

Due to the number of medical personelle that are soon to be involved in our baby's life, we have decided to call our doctor to find out what we are having: boy or girl.  It is important that our baby be called by name, and not known as a 'fetus' or as 'he/she'.  So....
Welcome, welcome

Caleb Isaiah Barnabas Henry!

(hope he's big enough to carry that handle!!)

We had our first appointment at the Royal Alexandra's Perinatal Clinic.  We were there for over 2 hours - but the time seemed to go by quickly (at least it did for Sheri; Kevin was left to pace the waiting room).  Sheri had an ultrasound which took one hour, then Kevin came in and both of us could see Caleb together.  What a cutie!!
   The clinic is trying out a new ultrasound machine and they wanted to try it out on Sheri.  The pictures were much clearer on the new machine.  Dr. Chari, one of the perinatologists, came in and took some pictures of Caleb's kidneys.  His left kidney is enlarged, but it would appear that if there is an obstruction, it is higher up the ureter - closer to the kidney.  We will know more when we come for our next appointment (April 25, 2002).  At that time, we will meet with a pediatric urologist who will be able to tell us what to expect after Caleb's birth (surgery required and when etc.).

God is certainly watching over all three of us!  Caleb's amniotic fluid levels are good - which is excellent for having one normal functioning kidney.  He is certainly an active baby as well, giving our ultrasound technician and the perinatologist some difficulties in taking his picture.  I thought that I might be more nervous, but knowing that there are so many praying for us - I was content to leave Caleb's health in God's hands.  It's hard to wait for our next appointment.... I can't wait to know if I can deliver naturally or not - I sure hope that I can!
