Questions I1 was intended to help isolate web-based readers and usenet-based readers. I'm interested in folks that predominantly use usenet newsgroups and use other forums as secondary resources. Unfortunately, I'm still running into some difficulties with misunderstandings about the differences between usenet and web groups and Google groups. I'm adding qualifiers regarding Google groups and web forums in next year's questionnaire, in the hopes that will improve matters. For now, adding J9 to the selection criteria certainly isolated the responses, but potentially could be overly harsh since a handful from other forums could still be considered usenet-based readers. The end result is that there were 41 returns that I would consider usenet-based. This is very consistent with the number of returns I got before the web announcements went out, though I didn't check to see if that is what I actually ended up with.
The number of returns is down dramatically from last year's 87. At 41, this is the poorest turnout yet, worse even than 2001's (71). Even if you add what I'm calling the "mixed" reader result (posted separately), we come up short with a total of 68, compared to 2002's 137. Again, some of that can be attributed to Geocities/Yahoo software losses, but that only accounts for a 30% loss (i.e. we should have had 60 and 100, respectively). I did screw up with the web site banner ("test only"), so I have to wonder about that. Other than that, I have no explanations.
These results can also be found at:
http://www.oocities.org/ruigarashi/Surveys/fans/fan0410/results_raa.html
Past questionnaire results can be found at:
http://www.oocities.org/ruigarashi/Surveys/fans/results.html
For each question, I've tabulated the raw count and the percentage of total returns for each of the possible responses. I've added a "blank" entry to round out the totals. Some questions had multiple responses, so don't expect all tallies to come to 100%.
Enjoy.
