Laboratory Experience
As an undergraduate student I worked in Professor Warren
Grubb's laboratory and became familiar with molecular biological
techniques including cloning, DNA seqeuncing and plasmid isolation. In addition
I worked in Dr John E. Gustafson's laboratory as an undergraduate
examining the effects of salicylate on antibiotic resistance in Staphylococcus
aureus. My current PhD research under the
supervision of Dr John E. Gustafson has involved the use of a combination of
physiological assays (antibiotic accumulation, MICs, autolysis), proteomics,
bioinformatics and molecular biology to uncover the mechanisms underlying
salicylate-inducible multiple drug resistance and other intrinsic antibiotic
resistance mechanisms in Staphylococcus aureus.
Teaching experience
- Siemens Science Summer School, Curtin University (1999) (Instructor)
- Siemens Science Summer School, Curtin University (2000) (Instructor)
- Microbiology laboratory classes, Curtin University (1999-2000) (Instructor)
- Microbiology (lectures and laboratory classes) College of Dupage. (2001)
