Golkar-PDIP friendly gathering seen as good for solution of
nation's problems
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The friendly gathering between leaders of the Golkar Party
and the Indonesian Democratic Party-Struggle (PDIP) in Medan, North Sumatra, on
Wednesday will have a positive impact on democracy and the solution of the nation's
problems, a politician said.
Syamsul Muarif, chairman of Soksi (a mass organization affliated to the Golkar Party)
made the statement here on Wednesday.
In the gathering the two major political parties were respectively represented by Surya
Paloh, chairman of Golkar Party advisory council and Taufik Kiemas of the PDIP.
Golkar Party and PDIP have different positions, where Golkar was siding with the
government while PDI-P was an opposition party, he said.
The Golkar Party is now led by Jusuf Kalla, who is concurrently vice president, while
PDIP is led by Megawati Soekarnoputri, the former (the fifth) Indonesian president.
Athough they have different positions, they continue to maintain the principle of
mutual respect.
At the friendly gathering, Jusuf Kalla as Golkar Party chairman was represented by
Agung Laksono, Golkar deputy chairman. (*)
