Five in Ambon named suspects in RMS flag case
Ambon (ANTARA News) - Police have named five people suspects in connection with
the confiscation of 60 separatist "Republik Maluku Selatan" (RMS) flags here on
Thursday.
Maluku Deputy Police Chief Senior Commissioner Benno Kilapong said here on
Saturday two of the suspects, namely DM (61) and RB (24), had been confirmed as
the main actors in the case.
Police confiscated some 59 RMS flags that were kept in the house of DM, a formar
postal service employee, in Benteng Tas in Nusaniwe.
They also discovered 125 pieces of red cloth, 306 pieces of green cloth, 286 pieces of
blue cloth and 290 pieces of white cloth ready to be cut and sewn into RMS flags.
In DM`s house, police also found some incriminatng documents.
After a deeper invesigation, they later searched RM`s house in Batu Meja, Sirimau,
and found an RMS flag and two SS1 bullets there.
Kilapong said an intensive investigation was still being carried out on the suspects to
find out whether more people were involved.
"We are still continuing operations against possible RMS flag raising incidents ahead
of the visit of President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono here to attend the National
Family Day program on June 29," he said.
He called on the public to immediately report to the police any suspicious activity
they notice happening in their neighborhoods so that police could take prompt action.
"There is no need for any body to keep such flags because doing so can cause
people to get into trouble with the law," he said. (*)
