Ambon terror continues
AMBON, Maluku: Police have been unable to identify those responsible for a string of
bomb and grenade attacks in the Maluku capital of Ambon over the last two months.
The latest incident took place May 2, when a grenade exploded near the Alfatah
Grand Mosque in Ambon. There were no casualties in the incident.
Police said new clues had been discovered, but the perpetrators and their motives
were still unknown.
Director of the Maluku chapter of Interfaith Institute, Rev. Jacky Manuputty, said
Thursday there was a systematic effort being made to provoke local residents by
attacking religious symbols.
"We strongly condemn the attacks on religious symbols. The series of attacks is
believed to have been orchestrated by the same group, but they have failed to provoke
residents."
"It is clear the provocateurs do not want peace for Ambon," Jacky said. -- JP
