2 homemade bombs explode in Indonesian town
POSO, Central Sulawesi(AP): Two homemade nail bombsexploded in separate
locations in a central Indonesian town that has been plagued by religiousviolence in
recent years, police said Sunday.
No one was wounded in the blasts that took place within 15 minutes of each other
Saturday night in Poso, a district town in Central Sulawesi province, said local police
chief Lt. Col. Adeni Muhan.
Poso, about 1,600 kilometers northeast of the capital, Jakarta, was the center of
fierce battles between Muslims and Christians that killed about 1,000 people in 2001
and 2002.
Saturday's first blast happened in an empty lot, while the second, about two
kilometers away, took lace in front of a home belonging to a Christian, Muhan said.
Police declined to say what the possible motive for the blasts was or whether they
were targeted at Christians.
Police were still investigating the explosions and have been questioning a number of
witnesses. (***)
