Police find separatist flags
AMBON, Maluku: Maluku Police discovered 60 flags of the South Maluku Republic
(RMS) separatist movement, hundreds of pieces of cloth in the colors of the flag and a
number of documents in two locations.
Police detained five residents believed to be members and sympathizers of the
movement.
It is believed the cloth, cut ready to be made into flags, was to be used during
President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono's visit to Ambon to commemorate National
Family Day on June 29.
Police ransacked the house of Dangker Malawauw in Benteng subdistrict, Nusaniwe
district, at around 1:30 p.m. Thursday and found the evidence.
Police later headed to another house in Batumeja subdistrict where they found a RMS
flag.
"We have seized the evidence for further investigation and are questioning the
suspects," said Maluku Police spokesman Comr. Djoko Susanto. -- JP
