This report is developed by HC/RC Office in Indonesia based on information provided by the National Coordinating Board for the Management of Disaster (BAKORNAS PB), Provincial Coordinating Unit for the Management of Disaster (SATKORLAK PB) East Nusa Tenggara, Indonesian Red Cross (PMI), and media reports.

I. SITUATION

1. SATKORLAK PB East Nusa Tenggara reports continued rains and bad weather condition is affecting search and rescue efforts and the delivery of relief assistance. Road access to the affected sub-districts remains blocked in nine points, mainly in Reok and Cibal Sub-Districts.

2. Currently, the total number of IDPs is estimated at 1,839 persons. The number has increased as IDPs prefer to relocate themselves in anticipation of further landslides.

3. the casualties reported by the BAKORNAS PB is as follows:

4. BAKORNAS PB has reported the further needs of: food supplies, medicine and health equipment, electricity generators, tarps, tents, plastic sheeting, gasoline, cleaning tools, radio communication, and kitchen utensils.

5. The bureau for Meteorology and Geophysic has reported that Tropical Cyclone George could possibly affect the area until 8 March 2007. The current level of preparedness should be maintained.

II. NATIONAL RESPONSE

1. SATLAK PB Manggarai District continues to distribute food and non-food items to the affected communities, especially to Cibal Sub District, worst hit by the landslides.

2. The Department of Social Affairs has delivered food and non-food items to SATLAK PB Manggarai, valued IDR 454 million (USD 50,500).

3. The Bureau of Health continues to assist health institutions such as Ruteng Hospital and Community Health Posts to provide necessary services.

III. INTERNATIONAL RESPONSE

1. The UN RC/HC Office in Jakarta continues to monitor the situation in close contact with pertinent government and non-government institutions, as well as the Indonesian Red Cross.
