Singapore Red Cross and Palang Merah Indonesia conduct
needs assessment in Padang, Indonesia

Responding to the latest earthquake that shook the grounds of Padang in Indonesia,
the Singapore Red Cross (SRC) will be sending two members of its disaster
management unit to conduct needs assessment of the situation.
Mr Amran Bin Amir and Mr Stephen DeSouza, will be working together with sister
national society, Palang Merah Indonesia (PMI) to conduct the immediate needs
assessments. They will be leaving for Jakarta tomorrow, 8 March via Garuda Airlines
at 3pm and will arrive in Padang at 5pm. They will be met by the disaster
management team from PMI and briefed on the situation. The two-man team will
spend approximately three days in Padang and will update the Singapore Red Cross
on the immediate needs of the victims.
Nurses by training, Mr Amran and Mr DeSouza are veterans in disaster relief and have
participated in several disaster relief efforts in Sri Lanka, Aceh, Pakistan and
Indonesia. |
