Five Poso Terror Defendants on Trial
TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: The South Jakarta District Court brought to trial five
defendants of terror cases in Poso, Central Sulawesi, yesterday (4/4).
The defendants are Arnoval Mencana (25), Bambang Tontou (23), Jonathan Tamsur
(23), Dedy Doris Serpianus Tempali (25) and Roni Sepriyanto Rantedago Parusu (18).
The prosecuting attorney Totok Bambang charged that the five defendants murdered
Arham Badaruddin and Wandi—two inhabitants of Masamba village, Poso—after the
execution of death penalty convicts of Poso case: Fabianus Tibo, Dominggus da Silva
and Marianus Riwu.
According to Totok, the incident started after the execution of Tibo and fellow convicts
on September 23, 2006.
The defendants gathered because of their disappointment over Tibo's execution.
They heard reports that the execution of Tibo was not carried out in a proper manner.
They then had the idea to stop vehicles which were passing on the Trans-Sulawesi
road, in Poleganyara Village.
The pick-up car driven by Arham Badaruddin and Wandi was stopped by the
defendants, the two victims were tortured to death and then buried in Mount Tambaro.
"The defendants' action caused widespread fear among the people who use the
Trans-Sulawesi road," said prosecuting attorney Totok, when reading out the charges.
The prosecuting attorney said he regarded that the defendants had violated the
Anti-terrorism Decree as well as committing murder. SUKMA LOPPIES
