Former BIN Head Hendropriyono Ready to be Examined
TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: Former Head of the State Intelligence Agency (BIN),
Abdullah Mahmud Hendropriyono, was ready to be examined as a witness in the case
of Munir's death. However, he disagreed that he was involved in the human rights
activist murder case.
"I'm ready if the investigators are willing to question (me) as a witness," he said after
attending the 55th anniversary of the Indonesian Military (TNI) Army Special Forces
Command in Cijantung, Jakarta yesterday (16/4).
Hendro's name has been mentioned as one of the 'right hands', BIN's Deputy IV,
Muchdi Purpranjono, was alleged to be involved. This is related to his connection with
Pollycarpus Budihari Priyanto—the only defendant in the Munir case who was
sentenced to 14 years and then released by the Supreme Court.
Based on the Munir Case Fact-Finding Team's (TPF) recommendation, Pollycarpus
communicated with Muchdi via cellular phone, but the contents were not revealed.
Muchdi denied this. His cellular phone, he said, was often used by his wife, adjutant
or staff member.
Head of the Human Rights National Commission, Abdul Hakim Garuda Nusantara
said that the key to the Munir case solution is the statement of the government
organization named BIN. "The police must be courageous to check it," he said.
National Police (Polri) Chief Gen. Sutanto did not want to comment on the Munir
case's progress. When asked about Mr. X who was with Munir at the Coffee Bean
café in Changi Airport, Singapore on September 7, 2004, he replied, "We're still
investigating the new evidence."
The new evidences that was revealed by the police include the involvement of the
suspect former Garuda Managing Director, Indra Setiawan and Garuda security
officer, Rohainil Aini. They both were detained at Polri HQ.
Regarding Mr. X, who is Raymond Latuihamalo a.k.a. Ongen, he has been examined
twice by the police (Koran Tempo, April 16). The emergence of Ongen's name is
related to the new evidence that Munir was poisoned in Changi Airport.
According to this week's Tempo magazine, Ongen's name appeared after the police
traced witnesses' statements. The long-haired man was always close to Munir until
the Garuda aircraft GA-974 they traveled by took off to Amsterdam, Netherlands. Dian
