Earthquakes Jolt Blitar, Banda Aceh and Ambon
TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: The Meteorology and Geophysics Agency (BMG)
recorded an earthquake in Blitar, East Java, last night (24/6).
The earthquake measured 5.5 on the Richter scale and occurred at 11.07pm WIB
(Western Indonesia Time).
According to BMG's records, the location of the earthquake was at coordinates 7.66
South Latitude and 112.16 East Longitude.
The epicenter was 187 kilometers deep underground or around 45 kilometers North of
Blitar city.
In addition to Blitar, an earthquake also occurred at 75 kilometers Northwest of Banda
Aceh, Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam.
The earthquake took place at 8.47pm WIB and measured 5.3 on the Richter scale.
The epicenter was 5.56 North Latitude and 94.65 East Longitude and 33 kilometers
deep in the sea.
Earlier, at 13.54 local time, another earthquake measuring 4.6 on the Richter scale
was recorded 136 kilometers Southeast of Ambon, Maluku.
The epicenter was at 4.77 South Latitude and 128.61 East Longitude and the depth
was 262 kilometers.
So far the effects of the earthquakes are not yet known, in terms of victims or material
