| This was a very hard course. Twice you had to run a hill as steep as the ones at Derryfirld Park. The many loops made it hard to follow, just ask the whole team who took some wrong trails, and the cold weather didn't help the runners either. But the continuous lead exchanges between Zach Emerson and a friendly rival, Nick Watts of Pittsfield High, made it exciting to watch. Zach and Nick broke away from the pack in the first 1/2 mile and took it hard up the first hill. Zach ran the last loop hard to clear some room but with less than 400m from the finish line he took a wrong turn and didn't realize it until Nick Watts went by him taking the right one. Zach tried to close the gap in the home stretch but lost by one second. Josh Costa and Matt Flautt also made some small turn errors on the course that cost them precious time. The team, as a whole, ran extremly well finishing second in a big meet with eight teams. Good job 'cats! |
