This was a very exciting day for H-D. The team recieved its first trophy in eight years! The best thing to come out of this meet was that H-D knows they can do better too. That is going to be real fun next year when H-D hosts the 2001 Monadnock League XC Championships. With confusion at the start they fit 6 teams in 2 rows on a 6 lane track. That was very crowded and as the gun went off a runner fell and took out a couple others including H-D's #1 runner Zach Emerson. Zach got up and you could see the pain on his face. He took the lead at about the 2 mile mark. Zach and Bow's Pete Lagos, found themselves in a footrace to the tape like the one earlier in the month in Bow. Today a hurt Zach was no match for the powerful finishing kick of Pete Lagos. Zach lost by 1 second. With the State Meet in 3 days Zach looked doubtful with a bruised hamstring from the fall. James Stafford had a great race showing that he wants that top 20 placing at the State Meet with his fast 3rd place finish. James moved up 6 spots from his 9th place finish last year and getting Monadnock League All-Stars First Team. Josh Costa ran solid yet again with his 3rd straight year finishing 4th at the Monadnock League Championships. In this race the team grew in size because two soccer players joined the team to help out for the State Meet. Dana Tilley finished 5th on our team and contributed a lot today. The other newcomer was Chris Mckee. Chris had a lot of trouble in this first race . He got very dehydrated and sufferd from severe cramps. He could barley stand when he finished. Welcome to cross-country running, Chris. The 2nd place finish was a huge boost for the team. On Saturday both H-D and Bow will try to get in the top 4 team spots at the State Meet to get an automatic birth in the Meet of Champions. Great job by everyone today!!!
