Today was a seven team race dominated by the eventual Class I Champions from Con-Val High School but H-D took 2nd. Great job by the team today. But there was another story, this one a little scary, that came out of this race and that was of Zach Emerson. It was raining for about two days straight before the start when it cleared up a little and the course at JSHS was real slick. With a mile to go Zach was in 2nd place running about two meters from 1st when the small pack of 4 approached a downhill curve. At the bottom of the hill was a small wooden bridge. Zach saw the runner in front of him tip-toe across but Zach didn't really think anything of it. When he got on the bridge he slammed down hard straight onto his right arm. When he got up, 25 seconds later, he was in 5th and in pain. He ran the last mile and almost out sprinted 4th place. With a certain fractured right elbow they rushed him to Concord Hospital by ambulance because the rescue personnel feared it was also dislocated.
Treatment: Arm in a sling for a week and no running on wet bridges ;) |
