Carroll, Lewis (Charles Dodgson) (1832-1898)
- Lewis Carroll home
page
Although this page does not carry much original content (in
the sense of biographies, essays, text and so forth), it is a very good
jumping-off point for Carroll on the web and off of it. The author has
done a very good job of selecting and, more importa ntly, annotating his
links. The site contains links to biographies, on-line texts, and other
Carroll interests such as his photography and puzzles.
- Also, check out the
Lewis Carroll section of the Victorian Web. (See under General Sites
for more information about the Victorian Web).
Cather, Willa (1873-1947)
- Harvard's Willa Cather
page
This page doesn't have too much original content, but it does
have some good links and information about where to find primary
documents, criticism, and biography. Beware - some links appear to lead
somewhere relevant, but actually just lead to enormous general sites (such
as the Pulitzer site or the University of Nebraska's home page). The best
stuff is to be found in the links from the table of contents.
Chaucer, Geoffrey (1340-1400)
- The WSU
Chaucer page
This page has a few links to things such as
bibliographies and some notes on the history of the fourteenth century.
It also has class essays.
- For a very good starting place, check out the Luminarium entry
on Chaucer. (See under General Sites for more information about
Luminarium).
Chesterton, G.K. (1874-1936) - The American Chester Society home
page
This is a small page, but it has some good stuff, such as
links, events, a biography (click on the picture below the mission
statement), and a quote page organized by subject.
- G.K. Chesterton's
Mega-Links Page
This site is a great jumping off point for
Chesterton research. It contains links to on-line works, criticism, and a
number of good quotes. Overall, this is a great place to start.
- Also try M. Ward's
G.K.C. page. It is overseas, so it may take a little longer to load.
It has a good biography and some good links.
Coleridge, Samuel Taylor (1772-1834)
- S.T.
Coleridge
This page has lots of e-texts, a timeline, an extremely
brief bibliography, and some other interesting stuff - like a dictionary
which translates his language into modern American. It also has some good
links.
Collins, Wilkie (1824-1889)
There doesn't appear to be
much actual criticism out there on the web, but then again, Collins isn't
the most well-known of the Victorian writers.
- Paul Lewis's
Wilkie Collins site
This site is mostly links, but also contains
online texts, a list of biographies, a bibliography, his will, and
pictures of his homes. It has interesting information about his
relationship with Dickens. This is an overseas site, so be patient while
it l oads, especially at high-traffic times.
- Wilkie
Collins Appreciation Page
This has a good basic biography, and
good information about printed biographies. You can buy books off of this
site. It has a nice annotated list of books about Collins. There are
links to on-line texts.
Conrad, Joseph (1857-1924)
Unfortunately, I could find nothing but texts and a site in Polish. There
is a searchable text of Heart of Darkness at
Georgetown. This site also has connections to information about
Apocalypse Now.
Crane, Stephen (1871-1900)
- UT at
Austin's site - Stephen Crane: Man, Myth, and Legend
This site
contains a brief biography and brief lists of common themes and literary
styles in his work. There are also several links to other sites,
including critical papers and the Air Force's celebratory site of the
100th anniversary of The Red Badge o f Courage.
Dickens,
Charles (1812-1870)
- The Dickens
Page
This is a beautiful site. It contains links to academic
research sites, electronic texts, dickens societies, mailing lists, home
pages, and other resources. It's in Japan, so it may take a few minutes
to upload.
- Also, check out the
Victorian Web entry. (See under General Sites for more information
about the Victorian Web).
Dickinson, Emily (1830-1886)
- Emily
Dickinson
This is a comprehensive site. It contains links to her
works, biographical information, links to pictures, and an annotated list
of other resources. The nicest thing about this site is the amount of
annotation; there's no guessing about where the links lead to.
- The Emily Dickinson
International Society
This site's most valuable asset is the
searchable online journals. There is biographical information, too. The
links to other sites are very well-organized by category.
Donne, John (1572-1631)
