General Sites

Luminarium
This extraordinary site contains information on medieval, renaissance, and 17th century authors. For each author, the site lists information about his life and works. Also contains e-texts, links to other sources, including essays and articles about the author and his works. I absolutely love this site, and it is almost the only concentrated source of information for authors such as Chaucer. Warning: uses Java and automatically plays music upon loading. Can be turned off, though.

Victorian Web
The site was created by George P. Landow, a professor of English and Art History at Brown University. He wrote most of the articles, or chapters, in order to help teach a Victorian literature class. It contains comprehensive information about the cultur al, social, political, and historical background which surrounds the writing of the period, as well as a lot of information about individual authors. This is a highly recommended site.

Voice of the Shuttle
This is a brilliantly comprehensive site for web resources on all of the humanities, including English Lit. Check it out.
