Tennyson, Alfred, Lord (1809-1892)
- The
Victorian Web entry. (See under General Sites for more information about the
Victorian Web).
Thackeray, William Makepiece(1811-1863)
- The
Victorian Web entry. (See under General Sites for more information
about the Victorian Web).
Twain, Mark (Samuel Clemens) (1835-1910)
- Mark Twain from the Mining
Company
This is an extensive, searchable, and well-organized site.
It contains spotlighted essays on several subjects. At the time of this
writing (11/16/97), one of them was the e-text of a biography. There are
photographs, links to e-texts of his work, quote s, speeches, and an
update of events. It includes a chat room in which you may be able to
find more information. Be sure to check out the critical section of the
page; it has an introduction which explains why there is little current
criticism on the we b (copyright issues). It also explains how to go
about finding what you can find on the web. A very, very useful resource
which I recommend to any Twain scholar. This page is terrific.
There are many other Twain pages out there, but most of them are too
specific for the scope of this project. I highly encourage you to start
at the Mining Company page and work from there.
Verne, Jules (1828-1905)
I know he's not English. So I'm breaking a few
rules. Who cares?
- The Life and
Works of Jules Verne
This site includes his life history, several
reviews of his books, and the bibliography used to gather the information
the author found on the web.
- Zvi Har'El's
Jules Verne Collection
This is a more comprehensive site,
including a "complete" bibliography, e-texts, a forum, links to the Jules
Verne Society in Paris, links to other sites, and a virtual bookstore. It
also has links to scholarly research. A very good site.
Whitman, Walt (1819-1892)
- The Poetry of Walt Whitman
This page contains a brief biography, links to e-texts, and a bibliography
of printed works pertaining to the poet. Once again, there is a dearth of
on-line criticism.
Wilde, Oscar (1854-1900)
- The Wild Wilde Web
Although there is no criticism actually here, this site contains a useful
bibliography of printed works about Wilde as well as a brief biography.
It also contains some pithy quotes by and about the author. On the other
hand, it doesn't have any links to other sites, so don't depend on it for a starting point.
- The
Victorian Web entry. (See under General Sites for more information
about the Victorian Web).
Wilder, Thornton (1897-1975)
- Thornton Wilder: The
Centennial
This site is still under construction in places, but
overall it carries a lot of information about his life and work. They are
working on a searchable bibliography at the time of this writing
(11/16/97). Under the "writing" section, you can click on a s pecific
work and get an introduction and links to online criticism about that
work. Although you may have to go through several "under construction"
spots to find what you're looking for, I still recommend this site -
especially after they get everything up and running.
Yeats, William Butler
(1865-1939)
-
Critically Yeats
The author of this web page has the same focus I do -
critical information. Her site lists links for everything related to
Yeats, his life, and his work. Criticism, biography, and e-texts. I
highly recommend this site.
- William
Butler Yeats
This site contains a short biography and a pretty
good bibliography of printed criticism and biographical works. It also
has a nice collection of links to other sites, including societies and
e-texts.
