Scandal of day
ALUMINUM OLIGARCH
Among representatives of big business and the political establishment, the discussion of news which relate to sex relationships of any of them, even more so which relate to the reasons for such relationships, is in poor taste. Nevertheless, a situation in which it is necessary to get married in order to save one's political ambitions cannot remain unnoticed.
Our main hero is the head of a rather large Russian financial-industrial group with a well-organized vertically integrated structure. A person who loves to "load aluminum into barrels." The guy is young, even though he is already well-known. He is not ugly at all, although sometimes in front of a photographer or TV cameraman, he puts such a grimace on his face that one unconsciously thinks - what a fool this guy is.
We will cite what one of the journalists of a rural news medium, Veniamin Strigy, who is not known to the public as a whole, wrote about our hero: "Looks like a homo sapiens, but his everyday behavior comes from representatives of fauna. In order to recover, he needs to be surrounded by normal people for a long time."
He is not only well-known for his brilliant career in business, but also for how he is able to be in the necessary place (or in the necessary bed) at the right time. Or how to use what needs to be used to get what he wants.
If you are still guessing but can't imagine who this might really be, we'll tell you: his name is Deripaska, Oleg Vladimirovich, still the head of the large Russian aluminum company "Russky Aluminy," the instigator of rumors, a marriage swindler.
We intentionally leave out all the details of Oleg Vladimirovich's biography and the process of how he became a businessman, but will begin with the fact that the threat of the start of a new "aluminum war" hung over the country in January-February 2000. The uninformed are reminded that up to that moment there were actually two irreconcilable rivals in the aluminum market - the British transnational company "Trans World Group" (TWG), headed by Lev Semenovich Cherny, a well-known entrepreneur, who, according to some authorities, is linked to international organized crime, and the group "Sibersky Aluminii," the actual owner of the assets of which is Lev's brother - Michael Semenovich.
Deripaska worked his fingers to the bone in the interests of the latter. At that moment Michael was in a difficult position: he was under great pressure in Israel because of his active participation in financing the official opposition. The law enforcement agencies of several countries suspected Michael Cherny of being linked to international, organized ethnic groups. However, this is another issue…
At the end of 1999, the managers of "Sibirsky Aluminii," under the adroit leadership of Deripaska, were preparing for a decisive struggle with TWG for the acquisition of the assets of the Bratsk and Krasnoyarsk aluminum plants. Deripaska's ambitious plans were high, right under the clouds: to create the largest Russian aluminum holding, to strengthen his position, make "capital bucks," and then it wouldn't be far to high politics.
And then all of a sudden, like a bolt out of the blue, news that stunned Deripaska was given by all mass media: Lev Cherny is selling all the assets of the oil company "Sibneft" that his corporation has.
Of course, the news itself concerning the sale could not confuse Oleg Vladimirovich, an old hand, who had received training in fighting during the struggles for the enterprise, so he had been ready for anything for a long time. However, thinking of the prospects of "locking horns" with the people behind "Sibneft," Deripaska, according to the words of his former colleagues, got the shivers, his left cheek-bone began to nervously twitch, and this could be seen with the naked eye.
It's no laughing matter that the "family purse" - Roman Abramovich and his former patron Boris Berezovsky, behind whom stood the unsinkable ships of the Kremlin fleet, did not leave Oleg any chance.
Oleg Vladimirovich hysterically rushes to Israel, where the smart and sober-minded Michael Semenovich suggests that they not fight each other, but rather combine. He says, Oleg, they can't control this business by themselves, they don't know how, try to persuade them to become partners, and then we'll see …
It was Oleg's luck that this is what actually happened: Roma agreed and later the leading mass media all over the world carried the news that the aluminum struggle was over before it even began. There will be no war! As they say, gentlemen, it's time to drink champagne. But, alas, not for Deripaska. See, the conditions for entering into a joint business, as proposed by "Sibneft," were more than enslaving, since the difference in the value of the assets being combined was incomparably more than two times (not in favor of Deripaska).
Now the time came for Oleg Vladimirovich to show everything he was capable of, that is to say, to manifest all the known tricks of his skill - from obtrusive complaisance to quite frank groveling and lickspittling. As he himself said to his close colleagues: "In this case not only the means but even more so the aim is what is important." And the aim is to become liked, get into a good relationship and then become a close friend. As is known, friends are very forgiving.
Once again, everything worked out the way it was planned by Oleg. According to information obtained from Deripaska's close entourage, he was not only able to write off a portion of the debts, but also, after establishing a friendly relationship with Abramovich, even secretly steal substantial sums.
After a short time, Deripaska realizes that he cannot constantly remain in the shadow of and dependent on Roman Arkadevich, this is contrary to his nature. He had to separate himself some way or another so that he would be seen, acknowledged, respected.
According to the traditions, going to Israel and obtaining the blessing there, Oleg decided to marry for the first time in his life. But it wasn't as simple as that.
You are reminded that in the course of his conscious life, Oleg Vladimirovich became well known as a "Don Juan." Notes were rather often seen in the mass media concerning his happy marriage to the daughter of Oleg Soskovets, the former vice prime minister of the Russian government, and to Elizabeth Berezovsky. And the female charms of soloists of the well-known and popular groups "Blestashie" and "Strelki" were personally "verified" by the loving Deripaska (including pregnant Polina Yumasheva). There were also persistent rumors about intimate relationships between Deripaska and married Alexandra Burataeva, a former television host.
However, in the instant case, it was not just rumors but concrete actions that were required.
Polina, the daughter of the former head of the Russian president's administration, Valentin Yumashev, a personal friend and son-in-law of the former Russian president, Boris Yeltsin, was selected to be the fiancee and future wife of Oleg Vladimirovich.
What more can be said - excellent.
After courting for a brief period with expensive presents, a rather outstanding wedding took place. And after a rather short time, Deripaska became a father.
Like the head of a family should do, Oleg Vladimirovich began to acquire assets: opened several bank accounts, registered in the name of fronts, in foreign banks, acquired a luxurious villa on the Antibes, comfortable homes in Austria and Czechia.
His closeness to the "family," access to its financial resources, provided Oleg with the possibility of "forcing open" doors of the cabinets of many important people, of establishing the necessary connections and of using them for his personal aims.
As a result, business got better and the time came to think about a political career.
Nevertheless, in his entourage, Deripaska often talks about the troubles of his thorny family life, complaining about the absence of freedom to act as he wants to. But he wants to so much …
They say that at present Deripaska is quite worried about the shaken political position of some members of the "family" and about the prospects of "being without work." Maybe this is the reason for his frequent secret meetings with some representatives of the "new ruling command" that is being formed. Well, and so a divorce is possible if this is what is desired. And this is easy to do, just like getting married … Goodbye, Polina, the rain will pass. Oleg will not return, don't wait for this to happen (but this will be tomorrow, and until then we will keep track of what is going on).
