Scandal of day

ALFONSO - FRIEND OF THE "FAMILY"

Rumors fly that the family relationship between Tatyana Dyachenko, the daughter of the former Russian president, Boris Yeltsin, and Valentin Yumashev, the former head of the president's administration, may significantly worsen.

And this, as some individuals close to the "family" pair affirm, may really occur as soon as Tatyana is provided with information on the secret love affairs of her husband, and also on what substantial sums of money from the "family" budget are being spent.

As for Yumashev himself, the former journalist has already gotten accustomed to a good life.

The swift rise of his career is related to his meeting Boris Yeltsin in 1989 during the election campaign of the latter to become a deputy of the USSR parliament. At that time Yumashev and director Gennady Popov were filming a documentary titled "Boris Yeltsin. Portrait on Background of Struggle." A little bit later, having already become Boris Yeltsin's "literary aide," Yumashev took on the role of literary editor, actually being the author of Yeltsin's book "Confession on a Predetermined Theme," which was published in 1989.

Yumashev writes one more book in 1994, this one ostensibly being memoirs of B. Yeltsin - "Presidential Notes."

In 1996 he became a member of the campaign staff of B. Yeltsin, a candidate for the presidency of Russia, and later, obviously as a reward for his labor, was appointed to the post of head of the president's administration, simultaneously holding the post of Yeltsin's senior assistant.

During the same period, the core of the so-called "Family" began to form. From the very beginning, entrepreneurs Boris Berezovsky, Roman Abramovich and Valentin Yumashev were included in this group. Yeltsin's younger daughter - Tatyana Dyachenko, became the main designer of the "family" ideology.

As Alexander Korzhakov, the former head of the Security Service of the Russian president, once said in respect to Yumashev, with whom he had a friendly relationship for a lengthy period of time: "He was and still is Tanya's (Dyachenko's) tail. He was appointed (to the post of head of the president's administration) specially by the 'Family': where the head wants, the tail is sure to go. He doesn't do anything independently."

Maybe the retired general was mistaken, but Valentin Yumashev, as we now see, isn't so passive and dependent. It is a well-known story that when Yeltsin's book "Presidential Notes" was published abroad in 1996, the publishers there paid a substantial amount as emolument. However, this money didn't get to the president, but rather "dropped" into Yumashev's account in one of the banks abroad. And only after Yeltsin banged his fist on the table and expressed his personal indignation at such behavior did Yumashev return the emolument, but even then far from all, returning just a small part. So as if to say, in order "not to wake the beast."

We've got the same thing here.

According to information obtained from very informed sources close to the "Family," Yumashev makes regular supplements to several personal accounts in two European banks. It is worth noting that one of these accounts is registered in the name of a firm which is nonexistent, but which, as follows from the foundation documents, is engaged in the building industry. It is also interesting that one of Valentin Yumashev's former close friends was the promoter of this firm.

According to the information provided by our informed sources, currency is not being withdrawn from these accounts, they are only being replenished.

We may assume that Tatyana Dyachenko (now Yumasheva) suspects that her husband has such currency accounts, maybe she even knows for sure that they exist. But a fact remains a fact.

We may also assume that under the conditions when the old "Family" is gradually, but continuously, losing its former power and the possibility of exerting some influence on the political and economical processes in the country, Yumashev, who still has the opportunity to "steal" on the sly, is trying to gain as much profit as possible out of the situation. And in this respect, Yumashev's actions are quite understandable. He understands very well, that with the new ruling power, there will be no spot close to the "throne" for him, and it will soon be problematical that he will be able to continue filling his pockets without virtually doing anything.

And the attempts to join fellow-thinkers, having the possibilities and sufficient financial means, under the slogan to create "Family-2" will not be successful - the ideology is different now.

And one thing more. With regard to the strength of family ties. We know for sure that when she was in a "delicate condition," Tatyana Borisovna didn't even suspect that her newly-made husband was having so many wild love affairs. Even though he tried very hard to keep what he was doing hidden, it didn't work out.

In our opinion, time will eventually put everything in place.
