Scandal of day

M. KASYANOV'S LAST TANGO

The President of Russia has expressed discontent with the Cabinet of Ministers' work as a whole and the work of the chiefs of the economic bloc in particular several times lately. But Putin hasn't specified whose work specifically irritated him. Yes - we are speaking about the Russian Prime Minister - M. Kasyanov.

Many experts say that Kasyanov is the person to whom the Russian president gave the "black mark." What is the Russian Government leader guilty of?

Only a few people know about the hidden aspects of Kasyanov's work. But even the general public knows something. It's known, for example, that he started his career with the support of the Yeltsin Family and having justified their hopes, he became one of its most important members. Or his nickname "Misha - 2 percent," which is based on some informed people's affirmation that being a deputy minister and later Minister of Finance, M. Kasyanov lobbied for different projects, some of which hurt the interests of Russia. For his help he took 2 percent of the project's financial equivalent, which turned out to be quite a tiny sum of money, since Kasyanov wasn't interested in projects with a value of less than 10 million dollars. It's natural that after becoming the head of the government, he increased the interest bearing rate (it is said up to 5 percent).

But only a few people know that it was nobody but M. Kasyanov who devised and realized an illegal scheme by means of which a sum of 4.8 billion dollars given to Russia by the IMF (International Monetary Fund) was stolen. The money disappeared, after that default broke out in Russia, as a result of which the economical situation was seriously shaken. They have been, and still are, looking for this sum of money in Russia and in Switzerland and God knows where else. It's clear that it won't be found because the search is being conducted in the wrong direction.

The two years that M. Kasyanov held the post of prime minister passed very quickly and without any loud scandals (the exceptions being the fraud with the debts of Czechia, the cases with the "Falcon" company and the Russian corporation The United Grids - ÐÀÎ ÅÝÑ). During that period of time there were some failures in the economy, but there were positive tendencies as well. And here we see such an evident discontent with Kasyanov on the part of the Russian president.

In the opinion of some experts Putin is dissatisfied with Kasyanov's independence in resolving personnel questions. One example of such independence is the decree, signed by Kasyanov, as a result of which U. Sukhanov became the head of the oil company "Slavneft" (joint state property of Russia and Belarus). U. Sukhanov had participated in a series of financial frauds and more than that he had appeared in several criminal cases. Apparently Kasyanov took such a risky for his career step under the pressure of the Family members, for whom "Slavneft" had been a source of stable and high income for quite a long period of time.

As a result Kasyanov's position became even more unstable. Putin is sick and tired of this overwhelming corruption and the scandal with "Slavneft" may exhaust President's patience.
