I’ve had 30 years of Human Resources experience. In that time I’ve interviewed thousands of job applicants. Therefore, I’d like to pass along some employment tips that may be helpful to you.
1. Always dress appropriately for the job you are applying for. If you are applying for a retail sales job a dress or shirt; an office or professional job a business suit; a blue collar job casual or work clothes.
2. Always show up at least 15 minutes before the scheduled time of a job interview. This will allow you time to either complete an Employment Application or just take in the environment and relax.
3.Bring your resume (if applicable) and list of job references( see below) with you.
4. Always ask lots of questions. This shows job interest. Ask questions about any thing you can think such as job duties, reporting relationship, benefits.
5. After the interview is over, follow up with a thank you letter. Again this shows job interest.
1. References. Line-up the names, addresses and phone numbers of 3 of your most recent supervisors who you know will give you a favorable reference IN YOUR FEMALE NAME
If you don’t have anyone or all 3 to pick, then use follow employees, your therapist or maybe your physicians. References are going to be checked before you get a job offer so set up references before you apply and then coach your references on using your female name and the proper pronoun.
2. Resume. Except for changing your first name at the top of the resume, leave everything else the same. Please don’t lie on the resume about jobs you held, employment dates or job duties. Except for your first name everything else on your resume should remain the same.
3. Passability. The better you are at looking female, talking and gesturing female, the better your believability is going to be. Therefore, practice, practice, practice. Practice in front of a minor, into a tape recorder, to a friend.
