Miss Russell's Kindergarten Discipline Plan
In order for all of the children in our classroom to have the excellent learning environment they deserve, I am using the following classroom management plan. The plan is based on mutual respect and cooperation; incorporating firmness with dignity and respect. It is the goal of this plan to develop the long-range characteristics of self-motivated discipline, responsibility, cooperation, and problem-solving skills. I will be in close contact with you regarding your childs progress in my classroom. Lets all work together to make this a successful year.Color Card Discipline Plan
A daily behavior plan using a set of color cards will be used in the classroom. The colors are as follows:
Green
Great Going! Good choices! Yellow Warning! Stop and think to make a good choice. Red Stop and Think! Possible time out. Teacher meets with student to discuss making better choices. Note written in agenda book. Orange Time Out! Too many bad choices. (Time out/discipline form sent home.) Blue Very Sad Choice Day! Time out/discipline form or phone call home. Office referral possible. One way for the children to learn to make good choices is through the Stop and Think! process:
1. Stop and Think! (about the choices I am making.)
2. Good Choice (thumbs up) or Bad Choice (thumbs down) (Which one am I making?)
3. Steps/Choices (What can I do to change my bad choice into a good choice?)
4. Just Do It! (I know how to make a good choice!)
5. Tell myself, GOOD JOB!Positive Reinforcement
I will frequently reinforce positive behavior through verbal praise, positive signals, and occasionally happy notes. Children who are continually on green throughout the day can even earn bonus stars showing a SUPER STAR GREEN DAY! When an extra star is earned, you will see a sticker beside the color circle in the agenda book.THE DAILY PROCESS
Each day, your child will start on green and will be responsible for moving his/her color card as directed by the teacher for behavior choices. He/she will follow the sequence of colors listed previously. Your child can earn his/her way back to green from yellow or red (not orange or blue) by cooperating and trying to sincerely make good choices as the day progresses. I will teach your child how to mark his/her own agenda at the end of each day showing his/her color. Please review this behavior color with your child each day as you initial the box in the agenda book.
In cases of extreme inappropriate behavior, a child may skip one or more color levels. (Example- move from yellow to blue because of physical aggression). In some situations, it may be necessary to remove a child from the class regardless of the color they are on. If your child proceeds to orange or blue, a discipline form or note will be placed in the agenda pocket explaining the behavior(s) and/or rule(s) not followed. You will read, sign, and return this form the NEXT SCHOOL DAY.
The goal of this process is for your child to become an intrinsically motivated (self-disciplined), respectful, and responsible person.Classroom Rules
In order for rules to have meaning for the students, it is necessary for them to take part in creating them. Therefore, they will have ownership of the rules and be more likely to follow them. During the beginning of school, the students and I developed the following rules that we believe will help provide a positive learning atmosphere for everyone in our classroom.1. Listen to the teacher and each other.
2. Be nice.
3. Be safe and keep your hands, feet and objects to your self.
4. Use proper voices.
5. Raise your hand for a turn to talk.
6. Follow directions the first time.
7. Take care of things.Click here if you need to download a copy of the discipline plan I sent home.
