Kelsey Grammer - a biography

Kelsey himself

Born in St Thomas in the US Virgin Islands, Kelsey Grammer was brought up in New Jersey and Florida. His Grandfather played a large part in Grammer's upbringing and was apparently the model for the voice of Bob.

Grammer became interested in acting at High School and was persuaded into an acting career by his English and Drama teachers. After two years at the Juillard School he joined the San Diego Old Globe Theatre, then moved to New York for Broadway productions of Othello and Macbeth. After appearing in small TV roles inluding the Tracy Ullman Show Grammer was cast as Frasier Crane in Cheers. From there the rest is history.

Grammer has achieved seven Emmy nominations as Frasier in Cheers, Wings and Frasier, being awarded two Outstanding Actor Emmies. He has also won a Gloden globe, an American Comedy award and a People's Choice award.
