British Midland - They fly from London Heathrow to Teeside but not to Newcastle. There is an online timetable with details of flights and timings.
Qantas - Straightforward to use site including online ticket booking and timetables.
Fly from London to Newcastle taking an internal flight. Newcastle airport is west of the city, the city centre is 7 miles away and Lumley Castle is 17 miles away. When you land at Newcastle you can take a taxi or bus to the city centre or hire a car (needs to be pre-booked, see links under the 'Car' section below).

To take public transport to Newcastle will mean taking several trains. First you will need to get to Central London, either by train (15 minutes) or tube (40 minutes), then take the tube across London to Kings Cross station. Trains from London Kings Cross to Newcastle take about 4 hours.
From London Gatwick, take the Gatwick Express to London Victoria and then take the tube (Victoria Line) to King's Cross and then the train to Newcastle.
Note - It can work out cheaper to fly to Newcastle than to take the train!

Stay on the M25, passing Heathrow airport, until you get to Junction 21, the M1 junction. The route is then the same as the directions from Heathrow.
