"I had to find an alternative means of transportation"
Jonathan explaining why our heros ended up travelling about London on a bus in The Mummy Returns
Lambeth Palace Road
One of the most used locations in The Mummy Returns in London is Lambeth Palace Road.

This is on the south of the river Thames next to Lambeth Bridge and has:

1) A historic wall (the one which surrounds Lambeth Palace where the Archbishop of Canterbury has his residence!) on one side to make it look authentic.

2) A piece of the river bank with grass and seats with a view of the Houses of Parliament (the traditional one as seen at the top of this page) on the other side.

Lambeth Palace also has a very nice big car park which no doubt was very useful for setting up all the vans and trailers needed for a shoot. Very handy!
The occasions this location turns up on screen are:

1)The first shot of London with montaged St Paul’s Cathedral (at the bottom right) and Tower Bridge (at the top left) in a way that is totally wrong layout-wise and all Londoners would look at in concernation.

2) When O’Connell and the team rush in his car to the British Museum to save Evy from the clutches of Imhotep. Note the time on the clock of Big Ben – filming is being done at about 2am in the morning! We also see a stereotypical London Bobby on his beat.

3)  When the bus driven by Jonathan and carrying soldier mummies hurries away from the British Museum, nearly knocking a man over who is crossing the road.  My friend Sam and I had a laugh when we visited this location a to have a look at it.  Ready to go home we stopped at a bus stop on the road to wait for one to come along but none came (not very many do there) so we had to walk further into central London to find one.  We think the man in the shot in the film may just have been waiting for a bus too and ended up being nearly run over by Evy’s brother instead.

If you look carefully you will also note both of the vehicles in these shots go down the road in exactly the same direction – even if they are going in or out of London, oops!
Here is an aerial photo showing the route of travel (red arrow) and the direction of shot to get the nice view of the Houses of Parliament (blue).
