Poor Brendan Fraser being given a dodgy line (or did he do this on purpose) when at least nine years have passed between The Mummy and his return.. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

The next location is UCL which is based on Gower Street just down from Euston Station in London. This provided The Cloisters with its wonderful portico as the location for the British Museum and Gordon Square in the campus surrounding it for bus chasing. The Portico at UCL was used apparently only because the real BM was undergoing somewhat dramatic remodelling (they were building the Great Court) and so was surrounded by portacabins and not looking its best in the summer of 2000. I must say however that I was happier with UCL than the BM just for scale sake - The Mummy set team always does smaller scale versions of locations (e.g. the temple at karnac) and this fits in rather nicely with them. |

The drawing below should help you with what I call the “Their British Museum” locations should you be interested in visiting. Please note the director has come up with another continuity blunder. Evy is seen dragging a bench across a door in a wall (these were located on the Sheperton set) and then the shot cuts to show her running with with Rick round the right corner of the portico. However when the soldier mummies burst out through the wall this door is set in (as Rick says, they don’t use doors) they run round the left side of the building! |

On the aerial photo below you can see The Cloisters with the portico squared off in red. In the pink square is the route taken by the bus (blue arrow showing direction) as it speeds down driven by Jonathan and has a near miss with one taxi and shunts another. The film crew had placed a pillar-box at the green arrow (they love doing this, watch out for one in Bedford Square too) and the yellow cross shows where the camera was placed. They had to do this to avoid the modern chain-link fence which encloses the square being visible in shot! |
