![]() Very little is presently known about the origins of the O'Brien family in County Tipperary, Ireland. Of Patrick and Margaret's children five are known to have settled in North Eastern Victoria - Johanna by 1857, Anne by 1861 and Catherine, Maria and Daniel Patrick arrived aboard the Champion of the Seas in 1864. A Margaret O'Brien aged 16 years was listed on the passenger list for the Champion of the Seas. It is believed the passage was booked for Margaret however she became too ill to travel and Maria, aged 13, came in her place initially staying with her older sister Johanna at Barnawartha. A Rev. O'Brien aged 24 and a Patrick O'Brien aged 18 were also aboard the Champion of the Seas. It is not presently known if they were travelling with Catherine, Maria and Daniel. Interestingly family lore indicates Catherine, Maria and Daniel were travelling with a priest. Of Patrick and Margaret's children, Johanna married Charles William Bryant in Beechworth in 1857 and settled at Indigo near Barnawartha, Anne married Thomas Carey c.1860 and they settled at Rutherglen, Catherine married Michael O'Keefe in 1868 and they settled at Boorhaman, Maria married Patrick O'Keeffe (Michael's cousin) in 1871 and they settled at Laceby, and Daniel married Margaret O'Brien in 1879 in Wangaratta and they settled at Bowser. Daniel's wife Margaret O'Brien was born in 1861 at Moranding, Kilmore, VIC, the daughter of Thomas and Winifred O'Brien (nee Seymour). Click here for Margaret's family tree. I would be grateful to learn of any further possible information regarding any members of the O'Brien family.
