![]() George Stewart was born about 1787 in Eddleston, Peebleshire, Scotland, the son of James Stewart. George married Margaret Cook in 1810 in Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland. Their first four known children Elizabeth b.1811, Anne b.c.1813, Margaret b.1815, and Gideon b.c.1820 were born in Scotland. Their fifth known child Mary Andromeda was born at sea enroute to Tasmania, Australia, and their last four known children Catherine b.1826, James b.1828, Helen b.1831 and George b.1833 were born in Tasmania. George purchased 540 acres in 1828 in the Macquarie River area. He died suddenly in early 1839 and was buried in Campbell Town. At this point in time it is not known when his wife Margaret passed away. Of the family of George and Margaret Stewart (nee Cook):
George and Margaret's son Gideon had overstraighted to Port Phillip in 1836 and by 1840 held the Mt Piper run 8 miles south of Seymour. His brother's-in-law Archibald Thom (husband of Elizabeth), Thomas Turnbull (husband of Anne) and Robert Taylor (husband of Margaret) also overstraighted, Archibald arriving about 1837, Thomas arriving early 1837, and Robert possibly around 1838-1839. In 1842 Gideon married Georgina Stewart in Melbourne. Georgina born 1819 Inveresk, Midlothian, Scotland, was the daughter of Alexander and Euphemia Stewart (nee Kay). The witnesses of the marriage were Gideon's close friend James Purves of Melbourne, and his brother-in-law Robert Taylor of Valleyfield, Tasmania. Around 1845 Gideon and Georgina settled on the Habbies Howe run, Kobyboyn, 12 miles east of Seymour. It is possible the run previously belonged to Gideon's brother-in-law Archibald Thom. Two of Gideon's sisters joined him at Habbies Howe: Catherine who married Henry Frances Hale Budd, and Helen who married Thomas Wilkinson Pinniger. As did two of Georgina's sisters: Janet who married William James Ruffy and Margaret who married John Graham. Of the family of Alexander and Euphemia Stewart (nee Kay):
At this point in time very little is known about Alexander and Euphemia Stewart (nee Kay) other than along with their daughters they settled in Victoria.
