Chapter 1: Arriving in Denmark...
Date: April 30th, 2000 - Sunday
After 13 hours flying, and a 5-hour jet lag, I finally arrived at the International Airport of Copenhagen, Denmark. Bad news was that Swissair made me a favour and lost my luggage probably in Zurich, where the plane stopped for a very quick scale! So, with nothing but the clothes I was wearing at the moment, I got a bus to downtown. I would be meeting Tapio Minkkinen (coming from Finland) in 2 days, but he had already booked a place for me for these first nights as well, so I simply had to find the "Sleep In Heaven" youth hostel, which wasn't a hard task since it was very well located.
Since the weather was excellent, in fact it was hotter than in Rio, I spent the Sunday visiting the main touristic points of Copenhagen. At night, fortunately my luggage was returned to me, and I finally talked on the phone to Jørgen Angel, the photographer who took the great pics for the Golden Years Photo Book. We scheduled a meeting for the next day, around noon.

After meeting Jørgen at the Østerport train station, close to his house, we went for a walk through some nice places, until we arrived to his favourite restaurant in downtown, the Café Sorgenfri. There, I had the opportunity to taste some items of the excellent Danish cousine, such as Marineret sild (pickled herring), Flæskesteg (roast pork), Dyrlægens natmad (the veterinarians midnight snack), rugbrød (dark bread), Carlsberg beer (of course) and snaps. I have to thank Jørgen for the lesson!
Later at night, I went to Jørgen's apartment, where I could see LOTS of excellent live pics from different bands, taken mainly in the 70's. What is shown on the Golden Years book is only a small part of what he actually has at his house! I can say without hesitation that the best shots are not included on the book, and this is explained by the fact that Jørgen doesn't have the negatives anymore, or even prints in normal size, only miniprints!! He also has excellent shots of other bands such as Deep Purple - a total of more than 50,000 pics!!
At Jørgen's nice apartment, we had dinner (me, Jørgen and his wife Karen). Again, I was treated with excellent food, and again some traditional items from Denmark: Hakkebøf med bløde løg (a kind of hamburger steak with roasted, soft onions and brown sauce and potatoes), plus rødbeder and asier (pickled beetroot and cucumber), and as dessert Rød grød med fløde (red fruit pudding with cream), and red wine! Thanks to Jørgen & Karen (also known as "Mrs. Døssing" ;-), I was treated like a king!
