Located near the center of Hungary, the capital city of Budapest served as the headquarters for the Eragon movie production. Most of the studio work was done in the city, and exterior shooting locations were usually within a ten-to-twenty mile radius.
Though one of the larger cities in Europe, Budapest had little to offer an epic movie production. The production team had to struggle with constructing the sets, since the available studios were ill-equipped, and required locations (like a large pool to film the waterfall sequence) simply did not exist. Another problem was the costumes, since the replacement designer arrived last-minute during the summer vacations of Budapest’s textile workers.
Despite these setbacks, the production went on as scheduled with principal photography beginning in July 2005 and ending in November.
