Neva'

The First and Only True White of Ryslen

The Winter Gather Flurry Hatching
The 2002 Flurry Hatching

Geof Though Neva' had mated twice successfully in the Flurry and bore six eggs for her mates the Silver-Blue Selenyan and Duowing Blue Rhyalinth, she still felt unsettled inside. The eggs were her pride and joy - not just hers, but every shining ovoid on the soft Ryslen sands.

Neva'
The hatching came, and Neva' found herself a perch on the ledges, to watch the new dragons find their bonds. It was their turn to shine. One of the shiny eggs of Tanu Cheeyath's trio began to crack, slowly and patiently. All three of them had been slowly rocking from the beginning, but none were the remotest bit rushed to hatch. Now, pieces of shell began to fall away, the shining white-silver paws of the dragon pushed the shell away, and curious rainbow eyes surveyed the world as the hatchling lay in half of its shell, patiently waiting. It's hide was pearly white - gemtoned, perhaps. Diamond, certainly. After a long pause, it rolled out of the shell and opened it's white-blue wings, which looked like glitter suspended in glass, with shining snowflakes embedded in them. The Glitz blue turned in a full circle, not displaying his stunning wings, but looking for the one he desired. His sparkling faceted eyes settled on dragon who had been through a lot, seeking her destiny out away from the Weyr. Neva' leapt down from the ledge where she had perched between her two blue mates and landed in the red sands, her gentle touchdown stirring very little sand. Neva', my beloved... the blue winged dragonet crooned, stretching up to touch noses with the white. Neva's eyes whirled in surprise. She certainly hadn't expected to be impressing today!! Iozabinth... Neva' purred, emotion heavy in her voice, and hugged the hatchling close with one white paw.

Ahn Neva' lay curled on the sandy beach of yslen's lake, her pale hide shining with health and gleaming from a light coating of oil the weyrlings had smoothed onto her. She felt as beautiful as Iozabinth - who was also clean and well oiled and on the beach, though the Glitz blue was far from resting. Sprawled on his stomach, the diamond-hided blue held the small green flurry flit Ahn between his paws, and nuzzled her tiny muzzle and was nuzzled back. Ahn liked Io', but not nearly as much as Neva' did.

You should have one of the recordkeepers write down your adventures, beloved. Iozabinth purred, his faceted eyes sparkling happily as he played with the flitter. Though I'm sure you'll tell me hundreds of times, the rest of Ryslen should know of your deeds.

Neva' looked to her bond. I don't think they'd be interested, Io' my love. My journeys were far from spectacular.

I beg to differ. Iozabinth said, an air of haughtiness coloring his tone.

As do I. Mezireth said from her sun-drenched ledge. You are Ryslen's first white, Neva', and even though you gave us two more, we do care about what you have done.

Neva' could hardly argue with the Senior Queen, though she wasn't quite ready to share her adventures just yet.

You can tell everyone when the time is right. Iozabinth said, looking skyward as Ahn took off to go investigate some other f'lizards, as her kind were apt to do. I'm not going anywhere.

'ling Io' Iozabinth and his clutchmates grew quickly, and excelled in their weyrling classes under the tutelage of Master D'lrik and his assistants J'ti and J'kyan. Perhaps it was that the two boys were the Weyrwoman's brothers, but they seemed to have everyone's respect from day one. Neva' noticed, as did Iozabinth. Someday when D'lrik retired, these two would do very well on their own.

Several of the other bonded pairs left classes early, as pairbonds were not required to attend classes on riding harnesses and the like. Io', however had decided on his own that he wished to know about these things, in case he was ever called upon to ferry humanoid passengers or cargo. One must be ready for everything. Iozabinth rationalized, and Neva' too attended the class, willingly allowing herself to be harnessed and unharnessed time and again so that the weyrlings could see how adult-sized straps fit. With D'lrik's permission, she even flew the 'lings once around the weyrbowl if they correctly put her gear on. Iozabinth was amused by this, but Neva' was a true mother, even when she wasn't proddy or brooding over eggs, and this was the truth.

Litayth was dozing on her cozy couch in the early morning as Tiyanni walked around the hallways of Ryslen as was her custom on chilly mornings, rather than going outdoors for a brisk hike. All was quiet, and everything seemed peaceful enough. The retired weyrwoman stopped by the doorway into Neva's hall, and a smile grew on her face. She tapped softly, and waited for a response.

You, of all people, need not knock, Tiyanni. came Iozabinth's sleepy mind-touch. Do come in.

With a smirk on her face, Ty did just that, and continued to smirk at the ball of dragon that dozed on the oversized couch. Neva' and her bond were tangled together in a maze of limbs that seemed impossible, yet the pair were obviously comfortable. "Good morning!" Tiyanni said brightly.

Good morning indeed. Neva' replied cheerily, her tone as clearly relaxed as her body.

"I just felt a need to stop in and see how you were doing." Tiyanni said, her eyes twinkling.

Iozabinth

I am well, and Neva' is also. She's contemplating being a mother again, actually. Iozabinth said, his eyes whirling mischeviously.

Tiyanni wondered how much encouragement he had offered, and smiled at this splendid news. "Wonderful. Should I have you signed up for a flight then?"

The flight list is awfully long, Tiyanni. There are females crossing their legs waiting to clutch on Ryslen's sands. Neva' said quite seriously.

Tiyanni could not help but laugh, she knew how true that was. "Perhaps some other weyr then?"

We were thinking about asking Cy Dragonstake if we could occupy their sands. Iozabinth said, obviously intending to be the only male to fly his bond.

"I'm certain Cy would be delighted to host your clutch. Shall I inform Jeyann for you?" Tiyanni offered.

No need. the warm rumbling that was Kalavanth said. It is already done, and a message has been sent to Cy. We expect a reply within the hour.

Neva' was a bit annoyed, perhaps, that the preparations for her flight had been taken out of her capable paws, but Iozabinth's loving nuzzle soon put that out of the proddy white's mind. I can hardly wait...
